A VISIT WITH GRANNY L.

Hello to children of all ages.

When a person is asked what they want to do in life, they are advised to choose something they truly love to do-what makes them the happiest.  What gives Granny L. the most joy is doing things to make others happy.  (Of course, you understand that no one can make another person happy because happiness has to come from within).

Think on this;  Happiness depends on people, places and things especially circumstances a person may or may not be able to control.

Attitudes controls choices made, which controls decisions made, which determines the outcomes received.

Joy, on the other hand, comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Savior and Redeemer.

Whether a person believes the Bible is God’s Word, or that Christ lived and died to save people’s souls, or that there is a heaven and a hell, how can they believe that a ship made of steel and is as large as a couple of football fields can float in water being steered by a small propeller, or that an airplane large enough to transport military tanks, other vehicles, and a platoon of soldiers with all their eqipment to the war can fly higher than birds?  Who gave man the wisdom and knowledge to dream  up and create these great machines?  The Creator God they do not believe in or trust, the same loving Heavenly Father who provides everything good that we have or see.  Like a father, He does discipline His children.  He sometimes even allows bad things to happen to good people in order to help them grow. It is the individuals choice to ask the Lord what He is trying to tell him or her and to use the situation as a learning, growing experience or to blame God or others for everything that goes wrong in their lives.

Remember that the Lord is at the door of your heart all the time waiting for you to invite Him in.  When a person doesn’t choose God, they have already invited and allowed the evil one to control their lives.  God doesn’t wish that anyone perish.  The devil roams about seeking whom he might destroy.  Deciet and mind control, hate, anger, resentment, lying, imorality, greed, and discouragement are some of his methods for controling the unbeliever.  The Lord tells us to have compassion, be  generos,   be gentle, kind, honest, and to have love, hope, and charity.     Which do you prefer?   It’s a choice that determines where a person will spend eternity.   ATTITUDES, CHOICES, AND DECISIONS CONTROL OUR DESTINY.

Now, to the lighter side.  Hope each of you are starting this new year out with big dreams, hope, determination, and perseverence.

Even a great-grandma has dreams.  For instance, I dream of having a home of my own again which is large enough for my extended family and friends, plus whomever else the Good Lord sees fit to bring into my life, come over for holidays, birthdays, fun times, and to use for community service projects.

I like nothing better than to cook, bake, and to make gifts for family and friends.  Will need help with the yard and garden though.  Gotta have a garden in which to grow all sorts of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Yum, yum.

Cooking hint for the day:  When you cookred or pinto beans, add beef bullion cubes to the water, about 3 cubes to a pound of beans.  Peel and cut up one onion and one or two cloves of garlic to cook with the beans.  Put these in the pot when you first put the beans on to cook.  Also add some smoked pork hock or pork neck bone at the beginning.  Seasonings should be added about a half hour before the beans are done enought to serve.  Uae less salt than usual because the bullion has salt in it.

Measure the salt, 1 tsp?, pepper tp taste,  about 3/4 tsp cummin powder, and about 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder into a small container to be added to the pot about 1/2 hour before serving.  My measurements are not exact because, like a lot of cooks, I seldom measure ingredients unless I am baking.  Go by your own taste and smell.

Different ideas for serving:  Serve over corn chips such as Fritos.  I personally like the ultra thin baked corn totorilla chips .  I buy mine at Mrs. Bairds Day Old Bread Store.  Enjoy.

Think Happy.  Pray for our nation.  Cry out in earnest.  God will hear and answe

                               Lovingly,

                               Granny L.

Hi all you wonderful people.  Hope you are having a great day.

Here in South Central Texas, the temperature is quite pleasant.  It looks like it will rain soon.  Recent rains have brought the grass, weeds, and trees  back to life.  We are experiencing spring type conditions in late October including wild flowers blooming.

By the way, do you ever look at the lovely flowers blooming on or close to  the ground?  Even during our long drought, there were amazingly beautiful, tiny ,flowers blooming on vines -plants- hugging the ground.  If we will only pay attention, we can see God’s gift of special beauty all around us regardless of life’s circumstances.

Remember that yesterday I said that you could give Granny L. your prayer requests?  Well, Granny L. is asking for all her friends to pray for her three ye

A Special Place For Everyone

Do you ever feel like you have to get away from all the noise around you even when you are in a crowd? Do you sometimes feel alone even when you asre with other people? Granny suggests that you close your eyes and think of when and where you were or are happiest and calm. Ask the Lord to show you your very own special place. With practice, you will be able to retreat mentally and emotionally to this your secret place anytime anywhere. I learned about this exercise many years ago though adimittedly do not think of it often but being able to picture myself in that place has helped me deal with some very stressful times in my life. My secret is that I always meet Jesus there. He is a wonderful companion who can help bring you inner calm out of chaos.

Hope all you wonderful people are having a great day.

Here in South Ceneral Texas, it is warm and sunny although we are expecting rain.  All the grasses, trees, and wildflowers are really pretty due to recent rains which relieved extreme drought conditions.

Yesterday I told you that you could submit prayer requests.  Now, Granny L. is asking for you to pray for her three year old great-grandson Charlie who lost one eye to cancer and is now having to undergo chemo treatments.  He is a precious little boy who is having to go through a lot.

Here are some ideas for yummy in your tummy stuff.

For a really delicious treat, peel a banana, slice it in half lengthwise, put in pan or glass baking dish, (optional squeeze little lemon juice on each half of the banana), using a small zip lock plastic bag with a small hole cut in one corner squeeze peanut butter down middle of each banana half, sprinkle some brown sugar on top of that, add ground nuts or coconut if you like, dot little bity pieces of butter on top of everything, andcook under the broiler a few minutes just long enough to melt the butter and brown sugar.  Take out of oven and cool enough so it doesn’t burn your mouth. Yum, yum.  For an extra special dessert, cool and top with a few dollups of whipped topping and sprinkle with  either or both ground cinnamon and graham cracker crumbs.

For an elegant ending to any meal, take your dessert-uncut to the table flaming.  Soak a few sugar cubes in most any liquid flavoring, place soaked sugar cubes on top of dessert and light.  You will wow your family and guests.

Granny L. has had an idea for a poem mulling around in her head, so here goes:

THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE

As I walked down a hall one day,

I saw a person coming my way with head bent down.

There was no hair on her  crown.

I wondered the reason,

Though she appeared to be in life’s late season,

In my imagination, I could see the lady and her lover

in their younger years.

Both were blessed with enviable tresses.  The gents head

was covered with thick auburn curls and

The lady had long blonde hair.

It shimmered like strands of gold in the sunlight.

The two lived a long happy life.

Their love remained strong;

Although, sometimes life seemed a mess because of stress.

The love of his life is now his baldheaded wife.

That is all I have time for today.

Think happy, smile, and give each other hugs.

Love to all from Granny L.in her kitchen

Love and Life With Great-gdandma

Grandmaw’s Kitchen

Since families are so fragmented in todays society and many children don’t know much less get to spend time with their grandparents, I would like to invite children of all ages to share love and life with this great-grandma.  You may call me Granny L.  Granny L. will be able to relate to a lot that is going on in your lives.

Granny L’s main reason for writing this blog/newsletter is to let each individual know just how unique and special each of you is, and to tell you that God–your Heavenly really loves you- unconditionally.  No matter what circumstances are in your lives, always remember that YOU ARE LOVED.

Granny L. has had a very interesting life during which she has experienced  love, rejection, incest, death of parents (can’t say I actually knew them as I was not raised by them), and the death of my oldest son this year.  Of course, there has been a lot to be grateful for through the years.

Granny probably isn’t aging very gracefully because she has been at the very awkward age for some time where she feels younger than her children are.  She plans to always remain young at heart.  How about some of you other older youngsters commenting on growing old?
